David Waterman studied philosophy for six years at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was awarded a Research Scholarship and MA and PhD degrees, and was a tutor to final-year philosophy undergraduates. In 1979 he became a founder member of the Endellion Quartet, now celebrating its twenty-fifth year. The Quartet has played all over the world, broadcast countless times on BBC Radio and TV, and recorded for EMI, Virgin Classics, ASV, and others. They are currently Quartet in Residence at Cambridge University and the Royal Northern College of Music, were awarded an honorary degree by MIT after residencies there, and in 1996 were given the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Best Chamber Ensemble. Waterman has also performed chamber music with members of the former Amadeus Quartet, Joshua Bell, the Chilingirian and Belcea Quartets, Imogen Cooper, Ivry Gitlis, Lukas Hagen, Steven Isserlis, Stephen Kovacevic, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Sándor Végh, and Tabea Zimmerman, among others. He has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall, the Menuhin Academy at Gstaad, and at Yale and Bloomington in the USA. David Waterman contributed a chapter about quartet- playing to the ‘Cambridge Companion to the String Quartet’ (CUP) published in 2003.”
